New Jersey Real Estate CE Deadlines: Key Dates & What to Do

Staying on top of your New Jersey real estate continuing education (CE) requirements can feel like one more thing on a busy agent’s to-do list. However, knowing the key deadlines and renewal steps can help you avoid costly fees and ensure you’re ready to serve your clients without interruption.

Understand the Renewal Timeline 📅

Let's simplify the two major deadlines for licensees in New Jersey:

  • April 30, 2025: Deadline to complete continuing education
  • June 30, 2025: Deadline to renew your real estate license

In odd-numbered years, real estate licenses expire on June 30th and the CE deadline for completing all required education is April 30th.

Completing your CE courses after April 30th but before June 30th will incur a $200 processing fee, so don’t wait until the last minute! For complete details, check the NJ Real Estate Commission site.

June 30, 2025 - Reinstatement Deadline ⚠️

Active Salespersons, Broker-Salespersons, and Brokers in the 2021–2023 renewal cycle who did not renew by the June 30, 2023 deadline still have until June 30, 2025, to reactivate their license. If you fall into this category, ensure you complete any outstanding CE requirements and follow the necessary steps outlined by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission. For more details on reinstating a license, visit the NJREC Reinstatement Information.

Know Your CE Requirements

For the 2025 renewal cycle, 12 hours of continuing education is required for New Jersey real estate licensee renewal. Of these hours, at least 6 must be Core course credits, including 1 hour of Agency, 2 hours of Ethics, and 1 hour of Fair Housing and the NJ Law Against Discrimination. The remaining 6 hours may be in elective or any other category. Confirm that your CE provider reports completed credits to the New Jersey Real Estate Commission promptly—this is crucial to avoid delays.
